Fr. William, the regional councilor of East Asia-Oceania , began a two-day visit to the Instituto Salesiano(IS), the mother house of the China Province on 21 May.Fr. William was born in Myanmar, immigrated to Australia as a child, and grew up there before joining the Salesians. He has served as Provincial Superior of the Australian Province and was appointed as RegionalCouncilor for East Asia-Australia in 2025, reflecting his long-standing commitment and leadership within the Salesian Family.
Upon arriving in Macau at noon, he had a lunch with the Salesians and subsequently met with the members of the School's Administrative Council. During the meeting, he conveyed Fr.Fabio Attard, the Rector Major’s gratitude and encouragement to the school's management team, emphasizing that moral education and faith formation are at the heart of the mission of a Salesian school and must be continuously valued and integrated into daily teaching and pastoral care. Following this, Fr. William listened attentively to the members of the Administrative Council as they shared the current challenges in their work and their vision for the school's future development, offering constructive responses and support to further strengthen the community's mission and pastoral approach.
May 22nd was a meaningful day for the regional councilor and the entire IS community. In the morning, the Regional councilor celebrated two Masses — one for the students and staff of the secondary section, and the other for the primary. In his homily, he referred to the words of St. John Bosco regarding the Mother of God, as revealed in his dream when he was nine years old. Fr. William emphasized that the teaching of Mary in that dream is a message for all our youth today: we are called to live with humility, strength, and perseverance.
In the afternoon, Fr. William participated in the procession of Mary help of Christian, organized by Instituto Salesiano. The liturgy was hosted by Archbishop Savio Hon, and during the homily, Fr. William encouraged the nearly 800 participants. He reminded them that Mary is the Mother of the Church, and that with faith in her, we are assured of her guidance and protection. The presence of the Regional councilor at IS is the presence of St. John Bosco himself, and the entire community expressed our gratitude for his visit, praying for his success in his work and for the continual growth of his leadership.
